At Unique Group, we celebrated our Global Health and Safety Week from April 29 to May 3, 2024. This yearly occasion represents a critical turning point in our steadfast dedication to Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) in all areas of our business operations. We focused our week-long activities on the critical confluence between occupational safety and health and climate change, with a global perspective. Our goals were to strengthen our practices, broaden our awareness, and improve our collective well-being.

A Week of Engaging and Educational Activities

Our agenda was designed to have a comprehensive approach to HSE, incorporating a variety of activities tailored to address regional needs and interests while staying aligned with our global theme. Here’s a closer look at what each region had to offer during this impactful week:

Middle East

In the Middle East, our focus was on integrating health and safety into daily practices with a series of activities:

  • Daily Fruit Baskets: To enhance general wellness and encourage a balanced diet.
  • Internal HSE Training: An advanced course on “Confined Space” to improve safety and awareness in high-risk situations.
  •  Toolbox Talk: Talks about how climate change affects occupational health and how adaptable safety measures are necessary.
  • Health Check-ups & Awareness: To improve staff health, thorough health screenings and educational seminars are provided.
  • QHSE Training: To guarantee operational safety, hands-on instruction in overhead crane, stacker operation, and rigging is provided.

Singapore

Our Singapore office focused on proactive health measures and raising awareness:

  • Health Check-ups & Awareness: Routine medical check-ups and educational sessions to address health concerns and promote well-being.

USA

In the USA, we combined safety training with engaging activities:

  • Reverse & Parallel Parking Competition: A fun, competitive event designed to improve driving skills and safety awareness.
  • Internal Trainings: Defensive driving and 5S (Sort, Set in order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain) sessions to enhance operational efficiency and safety.
  • Housekeeping Campaign: A drive to improve workplace organization and cleanliness.
  • Safety Slogan and Poster Competitions: Encouraging creativity among employees and their families with safety-themed competitions

South Africa

Cape Town’s initiatives were focused on health and preventative care:

  • Health Check & Flu Shots: Ensuring employees can access essential health services to stay healthy and prevent illness.

UK

In the UK, we emphasized mental health and peer support:

  • “MEN IN MIND” Session: A peer support group focused on suicide prevention, providing a safe space for men to discuss their challenges, seek support, and feel connected.

Global Theme: Climate Change and Occupational Safety & Health

The subject for this year, which emphasizes the connection between workplace safety and climate change, is in line with the global community’s focus for the World Day for Safety and Health at Work in 2024. It’s critical to discuss how the rapidly changing environment affects worker safety and health. The week’s events were planned to give our teams a better understanding of these difficulties as well as practical tools for risk management and mitigation.

Unified Effort and Lasting Impact

The execution of the events, as well as the combined diligence and commitment of our workers around the globe, made Global Health and Safety Week a success. Each region showed an outstanding commitment to comprehending and embracing the week’s core values by contributing their distinct viewpoints and creative ideas.
Our international teams came together and gave their all to the conversations and activities, demonstrating how much they respect and apply HSE principles to their day-to-day jobs. Their active participation and thoughtful reflection on the significance of environmental, health, and safety stewardship have established a new benchmark for handling these vital domains.

This week has demonstrated how cooperative efforts and common values can lead to significant change and uphold the safety and well-being tenets as essential components of our company culture. Let’s keep upholding these principles in every facet of our work and aim for excellence in establishing a more secure and healthful workplace for everybody.

Here’s to a future where health and safety are not just priorities but ingrained values in all we do.
