Brazilian contractor Andrade Gutierrez uses 315 x 2t Seaflex Inflatable Buoyancy Units (IBUs) to pull a new pipeline across a swamp in Soyo, Angola.
These buoyancy modules were especially manufactured with a more elongated shape than standard Seaflex 2t IBUs, to reduce their profile and ensure that the pipeline would not be grounded during its passage through a very shallow trench. Customised integrated attachment slings were also provided, passing underneath the pipeline and terminating in a simple flat hook for ease of connection and disconnection.
Seaflex buoyancy modules are being frequently rented or purchased by contractors for use on shallow-water pipeline pulls across all continents bar Antarctica during the course of 2017.
